Recovery Thought of the Day - April 22nd

Good Morning CR Family!

Please see below for the Recovery Thought of the Day from Perry C. Also, make sure to check out the announcements for the sign up links for this week's share group meetings.

Recovery Thought of the Day:

Small Steps

Jesus told a story of a man who loaned three servant’s money to invest for him while he was away, Matthew 25:14-30. The first two servants invested and doubled the money; the third servant was afraid of the master, so he hid the money.

All God asks of us in recovery is to do something with what we have today; our time, abilities, relationships and resources. For us to choose to do nothing is the same as burying our potential and life.

Like the third servant we may feel scared.  During those times we might be tempted to make excuses like, God won’t be pleased if I don’t really make it, I know I’ll mess up or who I am to even try?  Sometimes we can fixate on our own limitations and think we aren’t enough or succumb to whatever holds us back instead of taking the next small step God or our accountability partner or friend is calling us to try.  Refusal to take action is like burying the treasure God has given us to use for the benefit of others. God scolds the third unfaithful servant not for failing but for not trying.

God has absolutely no problem dealing and working with our failures, I can tell you that for sure!  Check out how Jesus loved, corrected, forgave and restored Peter after his major mess up, Luke 22:54-62.  This is what God does for all of us.

God doesn’t help us if we hide, refuse to take action in our own recovery or bury our abilities and gifts. Mother Teresa used to say, “We are called upon not to be successful, but to be faithful.” If we are connected to God, wanting to love others, ask God, what are you inviting me into? He has probably told us through other people or the scriptures.  Don’t worry about the results or outcome.  Step out knowing God has given us permission to be ourselves and expects us to take the next best step forward in our recovery.

In the opening story of the three servants, it says when the owner returned, he was pleased with the first two servants saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servants.  You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together, “Matthew 25:23. Did you notice?  The servants were praised not because they were fruitful but faithful.  They did what they were able to do with what they had been given.
